The Golden Trail World Series became the biggest and one of the most important Trail Running series in the sport. With 8 iconic races held throughout the year in different locations around the world, the challenging circuits ensured exciting and fast-paced racing.
As with the previous editions, the 2024 edition concluded with the famous finale where the top 30 men and women from the overall ranking after the 8 races were invited to battle it out for the Grand Final honours.
This past weekend, the Swiss region of Ascona-Locarno hosted the 2024 Golden Trail Series Grand Final. Between Lake Maggiore and the foot of the Basodino mountain, the best trail runners were present. We were thrilled to have our fastest women, Theres Leboeuf (SUI), who was ranked 6th, and Rosa Lara Feliu (ESP), who was ranked 12th, lining up for the 2 stages.

It was a brilliant first year racing the GTWS for our new recruit, Rosa Lara. She bagged 3 top 10 finishes at Kobe Trail, Four Sisters Trail, and Zegama-Aizkorri before taking her best result and rocketing to 1st overall in the ranking with a 5th place at the very competitive Marathon du Mont-Blanc. Our ever-smiling Spaniard went into the final in her best shape after just finishing 9th at OCC Mont-Blanc and 2nd in last week’s Ultra Pirineu Marathon!
Alongside her, our Swiss runner Theres Leboeuf lined up for the second time after a strong performance in 2023. This year, she enjoyed more success with a top 3 finish at Kobe Trail for the first race of the year, followed by another great performance at her favorite race, Zegama-Aizkorri, with a 4th place. With the final at her home in Switzerland, she aimed for her best race of the season yet!
The format saw the racing kick off on Thursday with a brutal 7km prologue, a tough timed effort that covered 400 meters in elevation gain. Following a break on Friday, the women tackled the 23.5km/1,400mD+ race on Saturday. A format that ensured maximum spectatorship, passing the start/finish 6 times and offering technical and fast terrain to cater to all runners' strengths.
It was a final not to be missed…

Our our fastest women, Theres Leboeuf(SUI) and Rosa Lara Feliu(ESP) were on the start for the 7km prologue on Thursday and the 23km race held on Saturday.
On a very bleak and cold day on Thursday, Theres finished 19th and Rosa unfortunately was untimed after being lead off track.
Returning on Saturday full of motivation to turn the tables, mixing it against the fastest runners and leaving everything on the course, eventually Rosa took 18th and Theres 22nd position.
After another consistent year of racing that included 3rd in Japan and 4th at Zegama, Theres concluded with 9th overall. Meanwhile Rosa in only her first GTWS season, bagged 3 x top 10 finishes before taking her best result and rocketing to 1st overall in the ranking with a 5th place at very competitive Marathon du Mont-Blanc. She concluded the year with 14th overall!
