Finishing top 10 on 3 occasions in the famous Western States 100 mile race and being selected on two occasions to start the almost impossible Barkley Marathons. There is never a dull moment for our smiling Scotsman, who when not training or racing is coaching and inspiring others to achieve their running goals. He has also commenced his own Podcast this year.

"The products go through real development iterations each season, not just colour changes."
Paul Giblin, Pro Trail Runner
How did you get into Trail Running?
I’ve always loved the outdoors, and as soon as I started running I knew it would free me to go to some wild and wonderful places. I used to race mountain bikes many years ago, and I loved getting off road then, so it’s always been where I’ve felt the happiest. I love the simplicity of trail running now. You don’t need much to do it, and there’s virtually nowhere you can’t get to on your own two feet.
Which is the most important race you took part in so far and why?
Probably my big local 100-miler, the WHW race. At the time, it was something I obsessed about and it pushed me to be a better runner, take bigger risks and use the confidence it gave me to fully commit to training and racing all over the world.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?
Take your time! There’s always the temptation to run every race you can in a season, but it can often lead to burn-out - so pick your races carefully, and give yourself plenty of time to train specifically for each race, as well as building in recovery time afterwards too.
Why Compressport?
It’s a brand I have a strong connection with, even way back, before I was involved with them directly. I love the Compressport ethos and their commitment to continual development of products to help athletes train harder, race faster and recover faster. For me, it makes such a difference when the people behind the brand are genuinely passionate about endurance sports and creating the best possible performance products. The products go through real development iterations each season, not just colour changes.
What is your favourite product from Compressport and why?
It changes from season to season. In winter, I love the new 3D thermo 50 and 110g Tshirts. The different weights mean that you can always create the most comfortable body temperature despite the conditions - from cold winter trails, to sunnier ski days (and they also have to be the lightest technical tops I’ve ever worn!). In summer for the big mountain races, the Freebelt Pro is super handy. It’s great for stowing your poles and for keeping your nutrition close to hand.
