Mauricio Mendez | PRO Triathlete

Storming onto the professional racing scene as an 18 year old, Mau became the youngest ever XTERRA World Champion just two years later. He has since gone on to take several victories in both on and off-road endurance triathlons, becoming a major contender at every race he lines up at.

He is also a Coach, forming a team with his Cousin and Dad. While he has ambitions to become an Alpinist at the conclusion of his Pro Career.

How did you get into Triathlon?

I started when I was 10. It all began as a father and son relationship and it became a hobby, so much so that today we make it our passion and profession! Winning the XTERRA World Championship, especially the moment I could run to my Dad after achieving our biggest goal until that time... It meant the beginning of my true self.

Who forms your team?

I have a big team, huge if you ask me. On the head is my Dad as coach and mentor/manager. The ones who actually make it possible for me to grow (sponsors) as an athlete and as a person. Last but not least, always the family and people who support no matter where I am in the world, how far or for how long.

Tell us a bit more about you...

I´m Mau Mendez from Mexico City. You will see I have a big passion for sport..from triathlons to trail running, I like to try everything. I am also a coach and have a team together with my Cousin and Dad. After my Pro career, I would love to become an alpinist.
