IronMan WC Nice 2024 - Race Recap

In just her 2nd only full distance triathlon, Marjolaine Pierre was the local hero in Nice when she attacked the race at just 23 years of age...

A last minute surprise wetsuit swim, set the day for more welcomed cooler conditions for the first edition of the Women ́s Ironman World Championship in Nice.

Exiting the water, ten women swam within 30 seconds of the lead including

Marjolaine who looked calm and focused in her  ́home ́ race. She set down a blistering T1 and wasted no time in moving to the front of the race on the bike, out to make an impression on a course she undoubtedly knows better than the entire field.

Loving every minute, the French prodigy established a 3 minute gap to chasing Kat Matthews, before the eventual champion Laura Phillip, close in fast. After 140km the chasing duo managed to pass and open up a gap to Marjolaine, which was the race winning move heading into T2.

An outstanding race by Marjolaine, cheered on by fans, friends and family as she headed out on the Promenade des Anglais for the marathon. A fast chasing 2022 World Champion Chelsea Sadaro, was determined to get on the podium and overtook Marjolaine after the 5km turnaround.

However nothing could hide the smile from the young Frenchwoman ́s face who couldn't believe what she had done when she crossed the line in 4th place after 9:09:34. What a performance Marjolaine!!
